Project overview

E&L Enterprises was commissioned to fabricate and install a three-way pedestrian bridge linking the InterContinental Hotel with the VOCO Hotel, forming a key structural connection between two high-end hospitality developments. The project required a steel structure capable of delivering both structural performance and long-term durability within a prominent urban and coastal environment.

With a steel tonnage of approximately 200 tonnes, the works demanded precise fabrication, advanced surface protection, and carefully coordinated installation to meet the architectural and operational requirements of the site.

Structural fabrication

E&L was responsible for the fabrication of all steel elements forming the pedestrian bridge and supporting structure. Components were manufactured to exact dimensions to ensure accurate alignment between the two buildings and to support safe pedestrian movement across the connection.

The fabrication process prioritised accuracy and consistency, supporting efficient installation and long-term structural reliability.

Surface protection and durability

Given the exposed nature of the bridge and its location within a coastal environment, a high specification surface protection system was essential. All steel components underwent blasting followed by metallising and the application of a C5 corrosion class paint system.

This advanced corrosion protection approach was selected to provide long-term resistance against environmental exposure, ensuring durability and reduced maintenance over the lifespan of the structure.

Installation and coordination

E&L carried out the installation of the steel structure and pedestrian bridge, coordinating lifting operations and on-site works within a constrained and active hospitality setting. Installation activities were planned and executed with a focus on safety, precision, and minimal disruption to surrounding operations.

Close coordination with site teams ensured accurate positioning and secure integration with the existing hotel structures.

Result

The completed pedestrian bridge provides a functional and durable connection between the InterContinental and VOCO Hotels, enhancing accessibility while meeting high architectural and performance standards. The project demonstrates E&L Enterprises’ capability to deliver complex steel structures with advanced surface protection in demanding urban and hospitality environments.
